Body Snatchings and Such

The other day I came home from a long day and turned on the you know what. You know the two letter word. I started watching this old Donald Sutherland movie with Leonard Nimoy--the master of logic--and Jeff something or other and got pulled in by the languaging. What I noticed right away is that no one talks that way anymore. The impact of it hit me, before I had any recognition of what they movie was really about. You know they were actually trying to use sort it out type language--language to express one's inner most thoughts and feeling. You know that stuff they call humanness? Oh, you don't know that stuff. Do you think that is back with hippies and encounter groups? Well, think about this.

The movie was Invasion of the Body Snatchers--a movie I left out of my agenda when it came out. And what was the theme of the movie? The theme, my fellow beings, was cloning of an alien kind--a pod that copied you as you slept. And though the hero made valiant efforts in the end they got him too. Now, how did you recognize a humanoid from their cloned version. Just one thing they had emotions--you know that touchie feelie stuff that dreams are made of.

So next time someone starts sending you down the garden path with a lot of rhetoric to replace that intuitive connection with your own inner garden, remember your own inner garden. It smells sweeter and keeps your own unique blessing of who you are in the world.

***Just a note. When I lived in Japan and watched the news translated, their used to be these breaks in the translation. I thought it was a tough spot or equipment problems. Later I heard from people--Japanese people-- what really was happening. You see sometimes the translator would have such a hard time with the politicians doublespeak that, there was just no way to translate it into anything coherent and with meaning. In other words, it was a bunch of adjectives describing nothing and getting away with it. So, look around how many times do the people around you fill your head with promises with no punch and agreements they can loophole out of and thoughts that leave you vacantly staring in space or do you find yourself dishing it out, even though you know the results are futile long run? Why do we in the 21st century allow this kind of inhuman communication? I'd be curious to hear your answer or know that you are focusing on changing making a difference.

Truth Or Consequencies

I wrote this essay as a comment to articles on the following site: http://www.becker-posner-blog.com/archives/2007/02/ One might not think so, but there is a relationship, between trans fat, global warming and the drunk driving issue. Unfortunately, I think that the problem has to do with education. These days in school, we are so afraid to step on someone's toes, so we avoid teaching morals in school, and why should we? Are you shocked? Read further. It has always seemed quite interesting to me that no one can come up with a simple means to start teaching community, integrity, self responsibility and the like to young children from their very first textbooks. I don't see that the word God has to be in there or in order to do that. All great religions teach a core of values that cross borders. There are values that are there in the constitution and the creation of America . By the way, a constitution created by people (whether or not you want to call it a dem...

So My Thoughts and Questions Are These

How long are we willing to keep looking at the differences between each other for the sake of disagreement, power and being right, whether it is easy to admit that we are doing that or not? How long are we willing to pretend that things around us are not happening, when they are, because we don't want to admit our fears, vulnerability and recognize that we are not sure what to do about things, so that we can start to face what we need to face as a nation and in the world? How long are we willing to turn away from the interconnectedness between things? How long are we willing to fight the same battles over and over again from one place to the next, while the same money could feed the poor, educate the world and preserve the economy? How long are we willing to keep seeing the problem as something separate from us? How long are we willing to keep fighting battles that are centuries old? How is that we have our federal taxes go to war, the infrastructure, and all the other things that...
